Heroes design secrets:light and dark colors
Red and black are a great cobinations used to create passionate heroes, usually it is used in antihero design too.

As we discovered in the last article (if you’re a new reader, consider starting from the first article by clicking here and then here), colors can influence how we perceive heroes and villains. In this article, we’ll talk about achromatic hues like white and black. So, are you ready? Let’s start:

Black and red: passionate heroes

Black and red are the hues of dark passion. These colors are used by villains and heroes, but they have different meanings.Villains like Carnage or Harley Quinn represent passionate feelings.

Heroes, instead, tend to be represented with these colors to create a hero on the brink of evilness. A great example of this is Deadpool.

The other primary colors usually don’t mix with achromatic ones.Blue is normally shifted to a powerful purple.Yellow, instead, is too cheerful to use, as we already talked about here.

White,grey and black

White and black normally represent a connection with death (black) purified by the light of white.A great example of this concept is Solomon Grundy who is a living zombie.

Although black and white can be used to represent a moral death. For example, consider the transformation of Spider-Man into his black alter ego.

In the end, Black and white can be used to represent Ying and Yang, or more generally, the interaction between good and evil in characters.
