Effect of yellow on our mind
Color affect our way of perceive reality, in this article we'll talk about the effect of the color yellow on us.

We can continue our study of the world of color psychology by watching the last primary color on our list: yellow. We already talked about blue and red, so click if you haven’t read them yet.

Effect of Yellow

As usual, here’s a list of the main effects of the hue that we’ll discuss more after.

Optimism and happiness

Yellow is symbol of happiness, cheefulness and optimism. In addition this hue is a warm tint (if you don’t know what’s a warm tint click here) so it increase metabolism and gave a sense of warmth to the observer. All this positive way of thinking improve communication and instill even hope.

At the same time a long exposure to yellow affect in a negative way: science has proven that a long exposure to this color to people improve their irratibility. Even babies tent to cry more often in yellow painted rooms.

Yellow:Intellect and decision making

This peculiar color is non-emotional, 

which means it’s unaffected by emotion in difficult circumstances. 

This mechanism is helpful in circumstances where fast decision are based entirely on logic. 

It’s own chromatic tint consequently became a symbol of intellect and rationality.

Furthermore, this color often has an  attention-grabbing (as orange,as we said in the last article) impact provided by the rational activation.

On the other hand the fast thinking is even assosiaceted with impulsiveness. Maybe are these anxious correlation that helped this hue to became the symbol of fear too.

Yellow in film

In the film industry world the symbolism became different. As we saw in the article about superhero costume design (click here to read it) the contexct can choose to enlight or create new meaning for the different shades of the color wheel (click here to read more about the color wheel). In films this tint represent:

  • Madness
  • Ilness
  • Insecurity
  • Corruption
  • Ominous
  • Darkness
  • Envy

Every film then decide what symbol choose and how to use them. Like for example emotion from “Inside Out” or the color ring from “Green lantern”
